A celebration of all cultures within one culture.
"Brooklyn Physiognomies" invites visitors to engage in a dynamic, multimedia exhibit that combines photography, storytelling, games, and interactive experiences to celebrate the evolving history and diverse faces of Brooklyn. This exhibition, originally created in 2015 at the Brooklyn Children's Museum (BCM), began with artist Zaca photographing over 600 community members to create an instant photo mural. Now, in a full-circle moment, past participants and their families are invited back to BCM for new portraits, documenting how they've grown and changed over the years.
The exhibit offers something for everyone, with games like Rubik’s Cubes, hopscotch, oversized dice with Brooklyn neighborhood names, and memory games featuring images of local landmarks. Each game fosters connection and celebrates the unique cultures that make up Brooklyn’s identity.
Visitors can also step into a recording booth, designed like a vintage photo booth, to leave audio messages. These three-minute stories capture memories, reflections, and snapshots of life in Brooklyn, creating a living podcast archive of community voices. The recordings will be compiled into a podcast series that preserves the voices and memories of Brooklyn’s people, highlighting shared experiences and individual journeys.
With photography, audio, games, and hands-on activities, "Brooklyn Physiognomies" is a vibrant space where kids and adults alike can explore Brooklyn's history, share personal stories, and celebrate community through play and connection.
